"Wrong response from API" error

I’m getting this message when trying to enter my license key:

Wrong response from API. Empty response from API.

3.3.8, in WP 4.0. I’m trying to enter the license key so I can update ACP.

Please send me a PM do I can have a look at your install.

For now you can download the latest version from “My Account” page and manually update.

Oddly enough, it’s working now. I’ll let you know if it starts acting up again.
