Edit inline always on?
Is there any reason the edit inline option has to be turned on first? Is there anyway it can just always be on? So the the edit pencil is always visible?

Are you talking about the ‘inline edit’ button on the overview page or about enabling inline edit per column?
The reason that we do not enable inline edit for each column by default is that it can cause some performance problems on large datasets with lots of column.
After you enabled inline edit on the overview page, it stays enabled for your session. So you should not enabled it each time you visit the overview page.
